Members: Who are they? We currently have almost 300 members. All are women, and from all walks of life. Many are retired or semi-retired; some join in activities almost daily, some not so often. The activities and events you choose to attend, how you use the club and how you contribute is all up to you.
Membership criteria: An applicant must be female, a current resident of the Greater Victoria (14 municipalities) area and must have arrived in Victoria within the past four years.
Membership fees: Membership fee is $40.00 annually, payable on September 1st or when you join.
Membership term: Our year runs from September 1st to August 31st. One can be a member for up to four years. By then, we hope you have found your people (and many new friends!) and your way around Victoria. Time to let newer Victorians take your place so they can equally benefit from NCGV. But you aren’t left alone—there is an alumni group (SWANS) that graduates from NCGV can join.
Membership activation: After registering, you’ll receive an email with login information. Follow the instructions, and another email will be sent to you to set your password. (It refers to a lost password, but is the correct email.) Again, follow the instructions. Once you've set your password and logged in, you can explore the website, including the Members section (visible only to members). New members also receive a name tag and an invitation to a meet-and-greet, which provides an orientation to NCGV.
Renewing your membership: You can renew your membership between July 1st and August 31st. Please go to your profile and click on the renewal button. Forgot to renew? Email ncgvmembership@gmail.com
Are friends or partners allowed to attend activities? Some activities allow a member to take a partner or friend, but most do not. Those that do are Sunday Hiking, Potluck Dinners, Dining Out, Pub Nights and Happy Appies.
Heart of our club: Our volunteers! There are many different ways for our volunteers to shine—executive positions, short-term committees, convening or co-convening activities. Those of us who volunteer find this is the best way to get to really know other members, so we strongly encourage all NCGV members to get involved. When you get your membership application, there is a section where you can let us know your volunteer interests and skills. Please fill it out!
Activities: Currently, NCGV has over 25 regularly scheduled activities for you to enjoy. Look under Activities on the homepage to see our current list. (You do have to be a member to join any of our activities or events.)
Luncheons: Our monthly face-to-face luncheons run from September to June, and most often include an interesting guest speaker and lots of opportunities to meet fellow NCGV members. The June luncheon is when we hold our AGM, where we elect our new volunteer executive (for which any member can stand), discuss highlights of the past year, vote on any changes to the club and answer member’s questions about NCGV. (You have to be an NCGV member to attend luncheons.)
Newsletters,BuddyUP and Social Forum: We have a great newsletter that comes to member’s inboxes several times a year. Often there is a theme, there are tips and news about the club and Victoria, and usually pictures and stories of past activities. Members can contribute—just get in touch with our newsletter editor. We also have a news sheet, BuddyUP, which comes out every two weeks. This is written by members who suggest opportunities and activities to other members, helping to forge new connections. Some examples are coffee meetings, dog-walking outings, potluck lunches, and art-making and stitch-and-chat groups. You can also use our Social Forum to suggest events, ask for advice and provide other information of interest to members
Other newcomer’s clubs: (for your information, though we think you should join us!) Victoria has a wealth of clubs, and some of our members belong to one or more of these as well. Not all clubs have a four-year limit on membership, meaning membership for life once one joins, if that is wanted.
